- Exceptional location just a hop away from the station - Well equipped to provide guest with information about Aso and the surounding area - Next to a Lawson - Eatery option is limited in Aso, but there is a 24Hr restrurant - Very clean and well maintained - Fell in love with the fireplace that was on during the stay in Autumn/Winter; made it exceptionally cosy - Lounge area was comfortable with free coffee/tea - Staff were professional and polite - Can get cold in the area but the bedding was very warm - Would highly recommend as accomodation of choice when staying in Aso

As an older couple cycling through Japan, this hostel had everything we needed. An excellent self-catering kitchen and a private room with a Queen bed delivered us comfort for our visit to Mt Aso. The staff were particularly helpful and spoke good English which was an advantage to us. Less expensive than a hotel but with more amenity for us with the opportunity to converse with fellow travellers, this was the perfect place for us to stay.

Location is the best - Mt. Aso view from the room window was super impressive. I love the public area too that the combination of Japanese and Western fireplace blended very well. Kitchenware is available to use, free coffee & tea to make. There's a hot spring place in 3-5 mins walk that you could purchase a discount ticket 300 yen from the hostel (normal price is 400 yen), relaxing and highly recommended

Aso Base Backpackers is truly a gem. The location is perfect, a few minutes walk from a really cute train station. The accommodation is spotless and very well set up, with excellent kitchen facilities and a nice place to eat and relax. The bunk beds were really comfortable. The staff were helpful and welcoming. There's a wonderful community onsen close by, well worth a visit.

The staff is friendly and helpful to answer all the questions you might have. The location is near the train stations, which is easy to take the public transportation. The common area is where you can meet and chat other travelers and share your stories with each others. You can also put your luggages into the safe place even after checking out.
